It appears there may have been some disconnect between Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis and head coach Darvin Ham prior to Ham's firing, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. During a Friday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Amick revealed that it was "pretty evident that AD was not on board anymore" with Ham (3:40 mark).

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to hire the fourth head coach in 20-time All-Star LeBron James' soon-to-be-seven-year tenure — provided James sticks around. Beyond making some critical roster revisions to a club that finished with a good-not-great 47-35 record and a disappointing five-game exit at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, the Lakers' most pressing issue at this point is finding said new head coach, a replacement for two-year man Darvin Ham. The club is casting a wide net, and seems to generally be prioritizing a lot of elite assistant coaches, plus James' "Mind The Game" podcast cohost, JJ Redick.

Generally when it comes to LeBron James-themed team-building, clubs tend to prioritize LeBron James. For the Los Angeles Lakers, however, that calculus seems to be shifting, at least this summer. Los Angeles is planning for the future as well as the present, when it comes to hiring the team's next head coaching rental, according to Shams Charania and Jovan Buha of The Athletic. Given that the 20-time All-Star combo forward (who has a player option for the 2024-25 season) is the NBA's oldest player at age 39, it certainly seems sensible for L.A. to look towards its other future Hall of Famer, 31-year-old All-Star center Anthony Davis.

As the Los Angeles Lakers look to make upgrades across the roster this summer, one familiar name has emerged as a potential option. According to Doug Smith of The Toronto Star, the Toronto Raptors are expected to pick up the option of forward Bruce Brown with the intent to then trade him. Just last offseason, the Lakers believed that they had a good chance to sign Brown and made a big push for him. While he didn't have the best season, Brown could fit the versatile forward role that Los Angeles has been looking for.

The Los Angeles Lakers were summarily dispatched from the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets again, this time building comfortable leads in each of their four losses following what many called the most competitive postseason sweep ever a year ago. Jamal Murray hit a pair of buzzer-beating game-winners over Los Angeles, too, just further confirmation of just how close yet so far the Lakers really are from top-tier title contention as a potentially transformational offseason dawns. Picking up where he left off after a regular season that cemented him as the greatest 39-year-old in league history, James averaged 27.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game on 63.7% true shooting against the Nuggets, taking his game to new heights in the postseason once again.

"As the Los Angeles Lakers begin contacting head coaching candidates and scheduling interviews this week, JJ Redick, James Borrego and Sam Cassell have emerged as the franchise's initial leading targets." Following the 2021-22 season, Borrego became the first head coach in the history of the NBA to be fired after improving a team's win total by 10 or more games in consecutive seasons.
